Same-day colour services and last-minute appointments at Crowning Glory

Jodie Moore and Sami House are the co-owners of Crowning Glory salon in Northamptonshire , which opened its doors three years ago. They’re now embracing everything Colourstart has to offer, and the process began with the whole team getting onboard. Navigating their way around the lingo to use with clients, phasing out the Allergy Alert Test and putting a new hair dye allergy patch test system in place, has all been part of the process…

Our colour business is so much better now we use the Colourstart hair dye allergy test.

“We use Revlon colour, and they recommend an Allergy Alery Test before every single colour appointment in order to detect a potential allergic reaction to colour, which is really challenging for a busy salon to administer.

The issue we had with the AAT is that there’s no regulation around it. Every manufacturer has different guidelines and it’s very vague as to how much a ‘dab’ of colour is. This is just not standardised and professional enough in our opinion.

Colourstart was always on the horizon, but we decided to open and establish the business before implementing this new way to test for allergy.

Naturally we were unsure as to how it would go to begin with and of course we had reservations. However, it’s going really well. We have been explaining to clients that this is their patch test that they own, and we’ve explained all the benefits. We’re a very busy salon, and one of the major benefits of Colourstart is that it is great being able to colour the same day and fill last minute appointments.

We love the fact that this puts the responsibility with the client, and they are self-certifying their own tests. It makes so much sense to have them do it themselves and to have everything standardised. I always felt that getting a client to sign a card that has the details of their AAT on wouldn’tstand up in court anyway – it’s just not official enough.

Initially we had to figure out the language we use to explain it to our clients, so we started by getting all of our team using Colourstart so they could speak from experience about it.

We’re now over half-way through getting everyone switched over to Colourstart and the aim is to get every client using it. The £15 price tag hasn’t created too much resistance at all. We explain that it is a medical patch test, and it is a one off charge, and not something we make money.

Our colour business is so much better now we use Colourstart. It allows us to be more flexible and creative. I would 100% recommendit to anyone.”
