There’s no doubt that the benefits are well worth the transition, but you have to make the decision to change and fully immerse yourself in the new way of working. We tried introducing Colourstart a few years ago, but we didn’t go ‘all in’. We weren’t pushing it, we hadn’t fully engaged with the process, and we simply weren’t committed.
Skin testing is a major priority for us and something we take seriously, but it became increasingly challenging for us to test effectively without it interfering with the day to day running of the salon. Firstly, mixing up colour with peroxide and applying it to a clients arm is not practical. Secondly, we often use more than one colour, and you can’t test two brands at a time, so this makes it impossible to test properly. We also have clients that travel a long way to the salon, so asking them to repeatedly visit the salon for a patch test is just not realistic….
It got to the point where we had to find an alternative, so we decided to revisit Colourstart and look into it more, but our past experience proved that if we were going to introduce it, we needed to fully commit in order for clients to take it seriously. If a client is reluctant to pay for Colourstart, the chances are they haven’t understood the benefits, so keep explaining it. ….
I sleep better now knowing that we are fully insured. It has been a lot of work; we have had a lot of conversations and there’s a lot of admin to do initially, but it is definitely worth it. We will never have to go through this again – we can change colour and never have to worry about patch testing. It is modern, cleaner and so much easier to run a busy colour business.
